It was never fun, but airlines make packing for vacation a pain in the butt. We are permitted one bag of up to 50 pounds each. I guess I should say we can take another bag or we can go over the weight but you pay outrageous fees. I am guessing that airlines are making beaucoup bucks by agreeing to haul to freight in their cargo bays and the extra bags and / or weight displaces the cargo.
In order to get it right, I packed my bag with about 80% of what I need. I weighed it. It was 40.5 pounds. I know that adding a suit jacket and dress pants will add at least 5 pounds and I like to keep it at 45 because when you cruise the airborne moisture gets into your clothes and they weigh more on the return trip. Princess has a "formal" night. No one is required to participate and they hope that you will wear a tux. That get up would add ten pounds to the suitcase so it's out of the question.
I can rent one on the ship but there are better places to spend money
Good news for me. I took my hiking boots out of the suitcase and one pair of jeans. I will need both in Norway. That took 8 pounds out. So, even though it will be a pain to remove my shoes for TSA screening and the jeans will be on the warm side for me this time of year that will be my costume for the plane ride.
We are taking a car service to Newark on Saturday. Not crazy about leaving our car in an airport parking lot for two weeks. Plane leaves about 6 PM. Jan and I are hoping to sleep after we eat dinner.
The weather in Paris is a bit on the warm side. Mid 80's but that's fine. London will be the same when we visit. Norway is in the mid 60's, which is like Alaska (most times). There is some sort of big fire in one of the Norwegian forests. It's a note on their weather forecasts so it must have an impact of some kind.
